NUR 507  Statistics for Decision Support     Credits: 3

Typically Offered: Spring.

Course Description: An examination of statistics with a practical application to healthcare data management and decision support. Emphasis on quantitative research methods as a foundation for evidence-based health care decision-making. Completion of an undergraduate statistics course and a minimum working knowledge SPSS functions prior to taking this course are recommended.

NUR 508  Nursing Leadership and Role Development     Credits: 3

Course Description: Professional nursing leadership will be examined through the lens of role theory and organizational behavior. Emphasis is placed on standards-based practice, human resource management, and workforce development within complex healthcare systems. Students analyze how organizations function as integrated systems and how professional roles influence collaboration, decision-making, and outcomes across individual, team, and community levels. Prerequisite(s): Admission to the MSN or MSN/MBA program.

NUR 509  Health Care Policy and Advocacy     Credits: 3

Course Description: Translate knowledge of healthcare policy and advocacy to promote public health within the context of a complex healthcare system.

NUR 510  Advanced Asessment, Health Promotion, and Pathopharmacology     Credits: 4

Typically Offered: Spring.

Course Description: Integration of advanced health assessment with concepts in pathophysiology and pharmacology to enhance clinical decision making and health promotion. This course includes 3 hours of lecture and 45 hours of direct care clinical experience. Prerequisite(s): Admission to the MSN or MSN/MBA program.

NUR 606  Informatics for Decision Support     Credits: 3

Course Description: Exploration of the theory and practice of informatics from the perspective of health-related disciplines. Students will examine the impact of technology on data gathering, analysis, communication, and application in healthcare. This course includes 2 hours of lecture and 45 hours of direct care experience.

NUR 607  Leadership in Financial Management     Credits: 2

Typically Offered: Summer.

Course Description: Nurses will examine the role of financial leaders in supporting the efficient and effective management of resources. Nurses will explore the impact of economic management on healthcare outcomes.

NUR 609  Research for Evidence-Based Practice     Credits: 4

Typically Offered: Fall.

Course Description: This course is designed to prepare graduate nursing students to use research findings to deliver high-quality health care and improve nursing practice. It covers research methods, procedures for evaluating research, and how to apply research findings to clinical practice and organizational decision-making. Prerequisite(s): A grade of B or higher in NUR 507.

NUR 611  Curriculum and Instructional Strategy     Credits: 4

Typically Offered: Fall.

Course Description: Examines the foundation of curriculum design and instructional methods. Teaching strategies are explored for didactic, clinical, and professional development settings. This course consists of 3 hours of lecture and 45 hours of a teaching and learning practicum under the direction of graduate faculty.

NUR 612  Program Development and Evaluation     Credits: 3

Course Description: Students will explore the foundations, principles, and issues involved in program development and evaluation. Program design, implementation, and outcomes are considered in the context of healthcare and healthcare education. Students will engage with individuals, families, or populations to collect data, incorporate patient perspectives, and design an intervention that directly impacts patient outcomes. This course consists of 2 hours lecture and 45 hours of direct care experience.

NUR 645  Advanced Topics in Nursing     Credits: 1-3

Typically Offered: Departmental Discretion.

Course Description: Advanced content in healthcare leadership or nursing education, taught on a rotational basis. Specific topics may include, but are not limited to: advanced statistics, development and implementation of evidence-based research project, writing for publication, or writing for grant application. May be repeated for credit. Prerequisite(s): MSN Program Director approval.

NUR 650  Nurse Leader Internship     Credits: 1-4

Typically Offered: Fall, Spring.

Course Description: Synthesize and apply knowledge and experience from graduate courses to enhance preparation for advanced leadership. May be taken for up to 4 credit hours. Prerequisite(s): MSN Program Director approval.
