Applied Behavior Support (Graduate Certificate)

The Applied Behavior Support certificate is a 16-hour certificate that prepares preservice and veteran teachers to handle challenging behavioral difficulties in ways that shape students in more positive directions and de-escalate such situations. Through the integration of psychological principles in courses on learning, behavior therapy, and child psychopathology certificate students learn how to observe and measure behavior, analyze the situation for antecedent-behavior-consequence connections, and use various behavioral therapy strategies, as well as how to employ self-care principles necessary when dealing with high-stress behaviors in educational settings. 

  • Submission of application for admission to the MWSU Graduate Program.
  • Completion of an undergraduate degree in education, social work, psychology, business, or a related field. 
  • Minimum undergraduate GPA of 2.75.
  • Submission of a one-page narrative, which describes the applicant's purpose for seeking admission to a graduate program, as well as what they hope to gain from the experience.

Program Graduation Requirements

  1. Earn a minimum overall GPA of 3.0, with no more than 6 credit hours of C in all required coursework.

University Graduation Requirements

  1. Satisfactorily complete all required coursework in the program;
  2. Earn a minimum of 15 credit hours.
