The MSN/MBA Dual Degree program prepares experienced nurses to lead with confidence at the intersection of healthcare, education, and business. This integrated curriculum combines advanced nursing leadership and education coursework with essential business and management principles to develop well-rounded professionals ready to transform complex healthcare systems.

This program consists of 47 total credit hours, including 32 nursing credit hours and 15 business credit hours.

Graduates will demonstrate abilities in:

  • Lead healthcare organizations through strategic decision-making and systems-level leadership.
  • Develop, implement, and evaluate educational programs in academic or clinical settings.
  • Integrate financial, operational, and ethical considerations into executive-level nursing practice.
  • Influence healthcare policy, quality improvement, and organizational outcomes.
  • Serve as nurse executives, clinical or academic educators, consultants, or interdisciplinary leaders across healthcare and business environments.

The Master of Science degree program in Nursing at Missouri Western State University is accredited by the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (http://www.ccneaccreditation.org.)

Admission Requirements

  • Completed MSN/MBA program application with evidence of the following:
  • Minimum undergraduate GPA of 2.75 and nursing GPA 3.0 or higher.
  • BSN from a CCNE, ACEN, or CNEA accredited college or university.
  • Evidence of current, unencumbered RN license.
  • Completion of undergraduate statistics and research methods courses with a minimum of ‘B’ in each.
  • A supporting statement of interest discussing career goals.
  • Criminal background checks may be required. An applicant who has been found guilty of a Class A or B Felony may not be admitted.

In addition to the criteria for MSN admission, students interested in the MSN/MBA program need to meet the MBA admission criteria:

1. Students with a BSBA degree from an AACSB accredited program are unconditionally admitted with:

  • An overall GPA of 3.0 (or higher);  OR
  • An overall GPA of 2.75 (or higher) with a 3.0 (or higher) in the last 60 hours.

2. In addition to the above GPA requirements, non-BSBA graduates and BSBA graduates from non-AACSB programs are conditionally admitted and must earn a 3.0 GPA after the first 9 graduate hours for full admission.

The following is recommended for students in category 2:

  • Completion of undergraduate AACSB accredited business course in the areas of accounting, finance, management, marketing, and statistics;   OR
  • Completion of any recommended MWSU online bridging modules.

Students who are accepted to this degree program will have no more than 6 years from admission or subsequent declaration to meet the requirements listed below. If certification, accreditation or statutory requirements change and additional requirements become effective during this time, the new requirements take precedence.

Note: Upon successfully meeting all requirements, the student will be awarded two degrees simultaneously:

  • Master of Science in Nursing (Nursing Leadership and Education major)
  • Master of Business Administration (Business Administration major, General Business concentration)

Program Graduation Requirement

  1. Earn a minimum overall GPA of 3.0, with no more than 6 credit hours of C in all required coursework.

University Graduation Requirements

  1. Satisfactorily complete all required coursework in the program;
  2. Earn a minimum of 30 credit hours;
